Every now and then, I hit a wall. Then I get on Tumblr and bore you all. Haha
But seriously. Sometimes I wonder, for how long can I smile, for how long can I bite my tongue as yet another person stands in front of me and dares to justify the reasons they eat animals. I struggle to comprehend how people can, genuinely and whole heartedly, explain in great depths that they need to eat meat to survive.
Fucken idiots. Yes, I said it. But only in my head.
On the outside I care, I sympathise and then kindly debate their point whilst careful not to destroy them. Because, in my 12+ years of not eating meat, I have come to realise that change can only happen from within. I know that if I sat that person down and gave them the talking to that I want to, they’d most probably rebel. They’d gain an unfair view that vegans are mean and militant.
Instead I am kind, I smile, I share vegan food, I remain strong in what I believe and I never apologise. I know I’m right. Eating dead bodies can only lead to negativity. Greed drives people to want to spend less on ‘food’ and more on a new iPhone case. They don’t question why or how a burger could possibly be $1, they don’t consider as they eat that burger that they are ingesting a myriad of hideous things, not to mention bad karma. Bad Karma? Yes. Why? Because how can good karma ever come from eating the flesh of a being that has been tortured and frightened before being slaughtered.
The very same people that will queue up for $1 burgers are the people who will cry when they hear of animals being hurt. Seriously. Now this exact mentality makes me want to smash my head into a brick wall.
Paul McCartney said it best “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian”
I met someone the other day who spent an hour ranting to me about all they thought was wrong in the world. They had good points, aside from the rambling conspiracy bits. But in their mind the issues with the world are the fault of the rich and the ‘bankers’. This, to some degree, may be true. But does that mean that we continue to stand on the conveyer belt of society and go along for the ride? Because you can stand on a soapbox on the conveyer belt, but if you don’t get off, nothings going to change.
People seem to think they have no control. But we do, because together we are huge. Today we have the internet, we have knowledge, we have proof that we can fix the world. But still, people continue to avoid their recycling bins, drink vast amounts of hideous soda and buy non-biodegradable cleaning products. It may seem that I’m going on a tangent, but I’m not. You see, to me, changing the world is simple. The only challenge is helping people realise.
In the past 7 years I have kindly discussed why I know being vegan is the right choice, and you know what? It’s worked. I can not count how many people have changed their perspective because of the knowledge I have shared. I also started a Veg*n group in our city to aid in the sharing of this perspective.
I’m not super, in fact, I’m really quite ordinary, and I can see the changes happening around me. The world is improving. But this will only continue if we get more people on board. We, the people, have a huge amount of control. So stop blaming your upbringing, stop blaming the government and most of all stop blaming ignorance.
Stand up and “be the change you wish to see in the world” - Ghandi
You’re stronger than you gave yourself credit for.
Pretty much commentary for my quest <3
